国民民主党の玉木雄一郎代表（2024年11月1日撮影）国民民主党の玉木雄一郎代表が自党の政策について「女性には理解するのが難しい」と発言し、波紋が広がっている。
玉木氏は6月24日に日本外国特派員協会（FCCJ）で開かれた会見で、国民民主党の女性の支持率が低い理由と改善策について聞かれ、困ったような表情を浮かべて「なんででしょうね」と述べた後、英語で次のように答えた。
「残念ながら、政党が設立された当初から私たちは女性からの支持を得られていません。多くの人たちから『あなたたちが言っていることは複雑で、理解しづらい』と言われています」
「しかし、昨年の総選挙での（年収の壁を）103万円から178万円にするというという政策は理解しやすいものだったと思います」
「つまり、私たちの政策は男性だけでなく女性にとっても良いものなのです。しかし、女性にはそれを理解するのが非常に難しいのだと思います」

玉木氏は発言の最後で、「私たちは何度も説明を試みてきました。私たちの政策は女性や高齢者にとっても良いものであるにもかかわらず、これまでのところ、彼らからの支持を得ることには成功していません」とも述べている。
自党の政策について「難しくて女性には理解できないから」とした玉木氏の発言に対し、SNSでは「侮辱的」「女性蔑視だ」などの声が投稿されている。
